Kerikeri is New Zealand's sub-tropical jewel, located in the world famous Bay of Islands. It is regarded as one of New Zealand's top visitor attractions and is renowned for its big game fishing, swimming and boating. Amongst the many golf courses is the highly regarded Kauri Cliff Golf Course and there are many excellent cafes and restaurants. Your hosts, Cliff and Louisa, are happy to make activity bookings for you.



Activities and Attractions in and around Kerikeri

Cafes, restaurants and shops
The village has something for everyone - casual or fine dining, clothing boutiques, sports goods, outdoor activities, interior design and a local cinema.

Three championship golf courses
- Kerikeri Golf Club is the home of many National Championships and just 5 minutes drive away.
- Kauri Cliffs is a par 72, 7000 yard championship course with 15 ocean view holes in a spectacular setting overlooking Matauri Bay and the Pacific Ocean, and is only a 20 minute drive from Bed of Roses.
- Waitangi Golf Club offers 18 holes with panoramic bay views, 20 minutes away, it is located 3 kilometres from the centre of Paihia.

Tennis club
In the centre of the village is an all-weather tennis club with three floodlit astroturf courts. Racquets are available and a small charge applies.

Arts and crafts trail
Artists and artisans abound with over seventeen active studios and co-operatives. Three excellent outlets close to our home are The Kauri Workshop, turning local ancient woods into functional and artistic works of art, Keriblue Ceramics for specialist pottery, and Makana Chocolates for fantastic hand made (while you watch and sample) chocolates. Nearby Puketona Junction is famous for its Mahoe Farmhouse Cheeses.

Local wineries and boutique distillery
- Marsden Estate, a boutique winery, has tasting and sales, tours, conference facilities and a daytime restaurant with patio dining overlooking their lake and vineyard.
- Cottle Hill is a small family winery offering sales and tasting and casual luncheon platters which are served on the patio overlooking the vineyard.
- Ake Ake vineyard and restaurant offering free wine tastings and vineyard tours at certain times.
- Bishops Wood Estate is a delightful boutique distillery which specialises in schnapps, liquers and spirits with quite a wide range and generous samplings. Next to Keriblue Ceramics it has a charming atmosphere both inside and out, and high quality products.

Historical sites
Kerikeri was New Zealand's earliest missionary settlement and is called the cradle of the nation. The Stone Store, Kemp House and nearby Waimate Mission House, all built in the 1800s, are beautiful examples of early colonial architecture.

Authentic Maori fishing village and pa
Built of native New Zealand materials as used before the coming of the missionaries, this reconstruction of a Maori fishing village is typical of many at the time when Chiefs Hongi Hika and Rewa occupied the fortified Pa (village) across the Kerikeri River.

Deep sea fishing, line fishing and boat ramp
The Bay of Islands is the game fishing capital of the world. Marlin, Sailfish, Sharks, Tuna. Professional skippers can take you out on their well prepared game fishing launches and catch you a big one, in the season, November to March. If sailing is your forté, sail yourself on a well equipped yacht from sixteen feet to forty four feet or larger ... Hand fishing from smaller boats to enjoy the thrill of catching a salt water fish. Snapper, Kahawai, John Dory, and many other local fish varieties to tempt your palate. Take a small boat down the local ramp to the Kerikeri Inlet and meander down the inlet to the Bay of Islands.

Skippered or bareboat sailing
Many different types of boats or yachts are available for hire. Either sail yourself, with good information supplied on local waters or a professional skipper can be arranged to come with the boat. Sixteen feet to forty four feet or larger, the choice is yours.

Cape reinga day tour
An airconditioned bus or sand safari bus collects you and takes you up to the northern most point of New Zealand where the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean crash together as they meet below the Cape Reinga Lighthouse. On the way enjoy the Wagener Tourist Park, Ancient Kauri Kingdom to view massive Kauri logs recovered from swamps and over thirty thousand years old, Te Paki station and wonderful Ninety Mile beach.

Scenic flights and parasailing
The Bay of Islands Airport at Kerikeri is just about a 10 minute drive. Here you can enjoy scenic flights over the Northland districts and parasailing over the Bay of Islands waterways.

A short drive to Paihia and Russell
Paihia is a 15 minute drive from Kerikeri and offers water cruises to 'The Hole in the Rock', swimming with dolphins, shops and cafés. Go from Paihia to Russell on the passenger or vehicular ferry. Russell was a tough, old time whaling port in the early days but now is a delightful small village.
